Before we discuss ways to promote your website let’s take a minute in order to have some understanding of search engines and page rank. A search engine is a program (i.e. Google) that looks through its databases by using the key words you typed in as search terms. Search engines also analyze how pages are linked to each other to determine what a page is about. The search engine than shows it results in order of relevancy. The goal is to show search engines what your web page is about so they can send the right visitors to your site and rank as high on the search results as possible. Odds are if your page is listed first in the search result it will get more visitors.
Where to Start?
Start by writing write web page content that is search engine friendly. Write titles for each page that have descriptive words you want people to use when searching for your website. Also put key words in the introduction to the page content. This is done so search engines can determine what each web page is about. For more details see search engine optimization.
Article Submissions
Write articles about key words within your website. Make sure you include information to your website or product so readers can easily find it. Post these articles to article directories such as Ezine Articles, GoArticles, Articlebase.com and SearchWarp. The goal is to generate as much exposure to your article as possible and increase the number of links back to your site or product. However, I don’t recommend submitting your articles to every article site on the web because search engines may consider this spam.
Social Bookmarking and Social Media
Becoming part of the Internet community is a great way to create networks and increase traffic to your website. It will drive traffic to your website from direct click-throughs from the social bookmarking web sites and from the search engines because these links will help raise your search engine rankings. Some popular social bookmarking websites are Delicious, Diigo.com, Digg, Faves.com, Stumbleupon, Reddit and Propeller. Also use social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, Bebo and Fliker, to create and maintain relationships.
Press Release
A press release is an announcement or newsworthy event issued to the press. Don’t over look writing press releases because they can help generate traffic to your site and increase your number of links. A good press release can provide name recognition and credibility to your Internet business. There are websites that offer press release distribution on the Internet. PRWEB, Free press, and PR Buzz are good places to start.
